Get into the Christmas Spirit at the 7th Annual Vancouver Christmas Market. The event has been moved to a new location – The Jack Poole Plaza by Coal Harbour’s Waterfront. There’s definitely more space for vendors with beautiful scenic surroundings. This is a much better location than the one I’ve been to in the past, it’s expanded and more picturesque. It’s open from Nov 26 – Dec 31 from 11 am – 9 pm daily. Tickets can be purchased by cash only at the gate, or you can purchase tickets online which includes Express Lane Access and 2016 Season Pass, so you can come back anytime. Kids under 6 can get in for free.
The event is filled with German-inspired festivities, from food, decor, gift shops as well as live entertainment. There’s a carousel right by the entrance for kids and adults to ride on, for an extra fee.
When you get there, head over to the wine and liquor tasting area offered by Hainle Vineyards Estate Winery and Okanagan Spirits Craft Distillery. It’s free and there are mini gift sets and full-size bottles you can purchase. After trying the Deep Creek Estate White Wine Riesling, I had to buy a bottle.
There are many vendors you can check out if you’re looking for unique gifts or just something for yourself. I picked up a couple scented candle jars from
Hartmont Candle Company and got the chance to use the ‘Cedar Sage Blackberry’ once I get home. I love the scent, not over powering and smells so fresh. The candles are made of soy wax and can last up to 45 hours. Instructions are included with each candle to achieve better results and to last longer.
If you’re a beer lover, there are some very well crafted and unique beer mugs by Stein Haus. Check out the detailing in each one…. WOW!
When you get hungry, there are several food vendors you can check out. There’s one that caught my eye,
Stein Haus, where you can find a large rotisserie, roasting pork hocks. You can also grab Schnitzels at
Das Schnitzelhaus, Wild Mushroom soups at
Taste The Wild Delicacies, Flatbread pizzas at
German Pizza & More! or some Homestyle Perogies at
Perogies Haus and there are plenty more. You can also grab snacks and treats if you come with a full stomach. From chocolates, baked goods, potato pancakes on a stick, cannoli desserts or corn on the cob.
Dress warm because it can get really cold by the waterfront. Because it is Raincouver after all, make sure you bring an umbrella or a waterproof jacket with a hood. The market is an open space, so there’s very limited cover area at the vendor areas. However, there is a large tent area called the ‘Alpine Haus’ for people to sit, mingle and eat. Space may become limited during busy times. Most vendors accept payments by credit and debit cards, but I highly suggest bringing some cash for shops that are cash only. There’s also daily entertainment that changes and the schedule can be seen online. Kids can visit Santa at the Photo Hut daily between 4-7 pm. To view the full entertainment schedule, check it out
