Earlier this week, I tuned in to Netflix and found a show called ‘The Kindness Diaries’ under the ‘Recently Added’ section. After checking out the synopsis, I decided to check it out and see what it’s all about. The concept of the show is about a man, Leon Logothetis, who used to be a stockbroker making lots of money, deciding to quit his job to live a more meaningful life. So instead, he travels around the world, without any money or personal belongings, and purely relying on the kindness of strangers to help him with accommodation, food, gas and even clothing.
The only thing he takes with him is his vintage motorbike, named Kindness One, which seems to break down a lot, and would require him to ask other people to help him fix it for free. By the way, even his boat (cargo ship) ride across the sea to get to the other side of the world was negotiated and provided for free.
What you’ll find are a lot of people who have gone through a lot in their lives and have been willing to help because they too believe in the goodness of others. There were also some people who literally had close to nothing, including a homeless man, provide him shelter and warmth. I basically was crying my eyes out on each episode and felt so warm inside, grateful to know that even with this messed up world that we seem to live in, there are still a lot of good people out there that you can rely on.
Now there’s a great twist to all of this, which caused me to ball my eyes out even more – Leon would gift something in return to a great Samaritan who has been very kind and generous even when they had so little, but are the ones who definitely needed the most amount of help. These generous gifts range from paying to provide someone with a new home, schooling, new books, water, a cow (yes a cow!), and more. The ‘gifted’ is overwhelmed by the gift, again *tear tear*, and shocked at the gift they have just been given. It’s truly so inspiring and you’ll just have to watch it for yourself.
I’m not sure if there’s going to be another season, but this season has 13 episodes. Just to give you a general idea of what to expect, I’ve listed the titles of the 13 episodes below.

As I watched each episode, at the end of each one, Leon would say something so inspirational that made me want to jot them down and inspired me to share them here on my blog. I wasn’t aware of it until after I watched the series, but he actually wrote a book about this. It’s quite obvious what the title would be, The Kindness Diaries, which I may end up grabbing so I can read more about his journey. You can grab the book through Chapters Indigo, Amazon, Walmart, as well as Barnes & Noble. Also, check out your local bookstore, they may have it available there too. I believe the show can only be streamed via Netflix so go check it out. They usually have a 1mo free trial if you don’t have a membership yet. The show is definitely worth seeing, it will leave you inspired with all the warm fuzzy feelings afterward.

It is so inspiring that someone could write a book and make a movie about such a positive experience. Unfortunately, not all are kind that’s why the saying ‘it only takes one act of kindness to change the world’ is so powerful.

I read the book and have watched a few episodes of the show. It’s super inspiring and got my travel bug going again! If all of us did even a fraction of the kind acts the world would be an amazing place.
