5 Tips to Decluttering Your Mind
Decluttering your mind can be a very tough task. In a world preoccupied with social media, it’s no wonder our minds are constantly on the go. With information always readily available on our fingertips, sometimes it’s nice to just have some peace and quiet. When you’re feeling stressed out and overwhelmed, the one thing we crave most is SILENCE. Shhhhhh. Here are some tips to help declutter your mind and help you regain your focus.
Declutter your space
Maybe it’s the Virgo in me, but this is tops on my list. Why is this so important? It’s such a refreshing feeling waking up or coming home to your personal space when its spotless and clean, to your standards. It gives you that sense of accomplishment because everything is in order. A decluttered home, or space, immediately declutters your mind. Don’t believe me? Try leaving all your belongings disorganized and disorderly for about a week and observe how it makes you feel everytime you come home to this. Unless you’re a natural slob then ok it won’t bother you. But, I’m sure a majority of us will feel immediately stressed out.
Take the time, at least 1 day a week, and really declutter your personal space. The place you spend most of your time at. It could be your home, office, or even your car. Afterward, look around. How does it make you feel? Ahhhhhh, that’s what it feels like. Great job!

Meditate
Meditation is one of the most popular practice to help focus and quiet your mind. In doing so, your level of awareness is heightened giving you an immediate sense of inner calm. There are so many benefits to meditation and some studies have shown that meditating can lower blood pressure, improve immunity and your ability to concentrate.
Find yourself a quiet spot where you can be alone to have a few minutes to meditate. Do this at least once a day or when your day gets overwhelming and you need to destress. Once in a while, wherever I happen to be sitting, I would shut my eye and take a deep breath in and slow exhale out. Counting 1-2-3 each time. If I’m alone, I would also chant ‘Om’ as I exhale out. The combination of these to letters said out loud as you exhale is so therapeutic. You can really feel the vibration on your chest instantly releasing the weight of stress from your shoulders. Just a few minutes of your time is all you need – as soon as you wake, during your lunch break, or just before you go to bed. There are many books available to show you different forms of meditation. And there are also numerous apps you can download that will instruct you. A few that I recently downloaded on my android, truly loved and shared with my fam are listed below. These apps are all free, with options to purchase add ons, free versions were more than enough for me.

- Prana Breath (Pranayama) by Oleksandr Albul – Many meditation breathing techniques to help destress
- Relax Meditation: Sleep Sounds by Ipnos Software -Pretty self explanatory. Many sounds to choose from. My favorites are water stream, storm waves and old bell.
Exercise
Another moment when you feel the most amount of accomplishment is right after a workout. The happy endorphins are released and you gain that extra boost of energy afterwards. We all know numerous benefits that exercise can do for you mentally, physically and emotionally. Its all around just a good thing to be doing daily.
Every time I finish a workout I feel hyped up and ready to tackle the next item on my to do list. Get your butt off of that seat and get your circulation going. Your mind knows how toxic your body is and so its time you rid yourself of it. Go to the gym, take up a bootcamp or yoga class, start a 30 day challenge, or just simply get up and walk around for at least 20 minutes a day.

Shut it all off
As I mentioned in the beginning of this post, social media keeps us pre-occupied. But you know what? It’s not just social media. It’s our smartphones, computers, tablets and tvs. We’ve become so addicted to being plugged in at all times. I know Im guilty of this too. Look around you. What’s everyone else doing? Our phones are constantly going off with a zillion notifications from emails, text messages, twitter tweets, facebook pops, nonsense group chats, tinder matches to baby monitor alerts. I mean you name it, there’s probably some form of push notification or alert for it.
So how about some real silence? Take the 24hr social media diet. Turn it all off and just enjoy the full day without the constant buzz. I watched a video on YouTube a while back and it was an eye opener. It was called ‘Look Up’ by Gary Turk’. “When you’re too busy looking down you don’t see the chances you miss” So many parts from this video I could have used to quote, but this made the most impact to me. Great, great, great video!

Bathe
Yep! Take a nice long, relaxing, warm bath. Turn the lights down low and feel free to light up some candles and spread them around the bathroom. Drop some soothing bath bombs, salts or lavender essential oils and just relax. One of my favorite products to use is from Saje Wellness called the Lavender Bath Swish. I just love everything they carry! Drop this into the bath, sit back and enjoy the calmness. Just try not to fall asleep while in the tub with candles surrounding you. Cautioning you right now – extreme calmness to be expected. Feel free to play relaxing music in the background. Do not bring any distracting devices with you! While you’re at it, set the mood and grab a bubbly, heck go ahead and grab a partner to join you if you want. Have fun!
